Energy4me
08.05.09 - SPE Stavanger has this week donated 60 books and 2 instructor kits to the University of Stavanger, 30 books and an instructor kit each for the international school of Stavanger and the British school of Stavanger.
- The English book offers a presentation of the oil in a historical perspective, says the leader of SPE Stavanger, Jan Roar Drechsler. SPE focuses on increasing the number of educated engineers, as opposed to the falling trend we see today. The book Energy4me is one attempt to inspire potential future engineers and is directed towards students at all levels, including university students.
SPE has more than 80 000 members worldwide, 1200 members in the Stavanger area, which includes 300 students.
-This book is meant as a basis for understanding what an engineer does in today's society, Drechsler says. Most of us have good knowledge about the technicals sides of the oil and gas industry, but few have detailed knowledge about the history of the industry.
-We know that 50 percent of today's engineers will be retired within 15 years. There will be a great need for engineers in the years to come, Drechsler says.
